TJ and the Camaro

Goldade Prepares for 2010 Season at MIS

By John Wells

OREGON, WI (05.09.10)-- What started as a suggestion has turned into reality for Stoughton’s TJ Goldade who will definitely have a car to be noticed in the Area Sportsman division at Madison International Speedway this year. This year he will be piloting a red and white Camaro on Wisconsin’s Fastest Half-Mile.

“Well, it simply started with a comment. Bob Clapper of Fagan Automotive was at the track one week watching my brother Ryan (who he sponsors). He said he loved watching the Sportsman division but the cars all seemed to look alike except for the orange car (Bobby Wilberg’s Challenger). So my gears got to spinning in my head and I said we should build a new Camaro,” said Goldade.

After working with MIS Technical Director Dave Oswald, Goldade received the green light to proceed with his plan. Now a lot of drivers have dreams, but now it was Goldade’s turn to step up and turn his vision into the real thing.

Goldade explains how making this project come to fruition was a total team effort. “The next challenge was finding a 67-69 Camaro for the roof and rear quarter panels. I was talking to Terry Sauer (my engine builder) and he found two at Deppe's. So I went over there and bought two 67 Camaros for $150. Fagan Chevrolet sponsored the bumper covers with the intent of making the color & scheme of the car as OE as possible. With that we decided to go red with the black hockey stripe package. Later the car went to Scott Riedner's shop with myself and crew member Ryan Bersing. Joe Cross helps Scott with a lot of his fabricating projects and about three weeks later the Camaro body was completed. Next step was to Ron Bothum's shop for body work and paint. After that Jerry Peterson made the entire grille area, interior, windows and rear spoiler. ChunkeyBuck vinyl lettered the car and now I get the enjoyment of racing this fine looking car!”

Goldade’s goals for the 2010 season at MIS are pretty impressive. “My goals are to win most popular driver for a third straight year, win best appearing car, compile as many top five and ten finishes, win features and make a strong run for the title this year!”

Of course a driver cannot do it alone and Goldade has an impressive listing of local sponsors riding with him in 2010 who include Stoughton Tire and Auto Repair, Fagan Automotive, Star Concrete, Quest Industrial, Stoughton Spirits, Advance Auto Parts of Stoughton, Ron's Body & Welding, Coors Light, Pack R Place, Jim Conant Construction, Tricor Insurance, Joe Hanson Construction, Star Supply, Barry Optical, and The Engine Shop.

His crew consists of his dad, Tod, Ryan Bersing, Ryan Goldade Adam Gordee, Bryce Hanson, Mikey Petkosovick, & Dave Vogel.

He would also like to thank Scott Riedner, Joe Cross, Ryan Bersing, my Dad, Jerry Peterson, Bobby Wilberg, Terry Sauer, The Deppe's, Travis Vogel & Nick Diny.

The weekly racing season at MIS begins on Sunday, May 23rd with hot laps beginning at 11:30, qualifying at 1:15 and racing at 3:00. The Friday night racing program begins on May 28th and continues until the end of August.
