Zack Riddle Races to Late Model Checkered Flag Wilberg, Ambrose, Ace, and McNamara Also Claim Wins By John Wells [VL Photos follow race report] Oregon, WI (Friday, June 11, 2010)-- After a rough start to his season, Zack Riddle reversed his fortunes tonight by winning the 40 lap feature for the Rockweiler Insulation Late Models. Four other drivers also won features with Bobby Wilberg (Ho Chunk Gaming Area Sportsman), Todd Ambrose (Club LaMark Hobby Stocks), Chester Ace (Roto Rooter Bandits) and Max McNamara (Pellitteri Waste Systems Legends) taking home the honors on a warm and humid night of racing at Madison International Speedway. Riddle Rides to Victory in Rockweiler Insulation Late Models The field of twenty-one cars was led to the green flag by Chad Wood and Nathan Oppliger with Wood grabbing the early lead before surrendering it to former Midwest Sportsman track champion James Swan. Wood would drop out of the top five quickly as John Baumeister Jr. moved up to second followed by Jeremy Miller, Riddle, and Brady Liddle. The races first caution came out on lap 8 for a spin in turn four. The double-file restart would find Swan still with the advantage, but it would be Riddle who would move up to the second position while Baumeister Jr. and Miller battled it out for third. As the field moved down the backstretch on lap 13, Riddle worked his way to the inside of Swan and successfully made the pass coming out of turn three to take the lead. By lap 20 Riddles lead was up to six car lengths, but Miller wasnt about to let him get away that easily. By lap 25 the gap had decreased significantly and when the caution flag came out two laps later for an incident in turn two it appeared that Miller might have enough to take the lead on the restart. But Riddle wouldnt allow it as he used the inside starting position to hold off the defending track champion. Miller and point leader Scott Broughton would trade positions for second place on lap 28 with Riddle still showing the way out front. Miller would take back second one lap later before the yellow flag waved on lap 30 for a spin on the backstretch. Riddle, Miller, and Broughton would put some distance between themselves and the field following the restart but the night belonged to Riddle as he was able to keep the others at bay to pick up his first feature win of the season. Miller would finish second followed by Broughton, Swan, and Wood. This makes it all pay off here tonight. Weve had a good car the past few weeks but things just havent gone well, said Riddle from Indian Motorcyles of Chicago Victory Lane. It certainly helped starting the restarts on the inside but I knew Jeremy (Miller) was going to be right there with me. Miller set fast time with a lap of 19.020 while heat winners were rookie McKenzie Piller, Goldade, and Broughton. For Piller it was her first win in a late model. Wilberg Does It Again in Ho Chunk Area Sportsman Bobby Wilberg won his second feature of the 2010 weekly racing season by topping the seven car field in the 15 lap main event for the Ho Chunk Area Sportsman. Robert Hansberry and Tommy Wutke paced the field to the green flag in the Area Sportsman main event with TJ Goldade and his Camaro getting the lead by passing Hansberry on the inside coming out of turn one on the second circuit. With Goldade out in front, Wilberg sped by Hansberry for second on the next lap and began the hunt for the lead. On lap 5 Wilberg made his move to the inside of Goldade to take the lead shortly before Goldades night would come to a sudden end when he and Stephen Scheel made contact coming out of turn four sending Goldade head first into the wall bringing out the red flag. Goldade was able to walk away, but his car would need a ride back to the pits on a flat bed. After that it was all Wilberg who gradually pulled away from Hansberry and would hold off Scheel, who had moved past Hansberry for second on lap 13. Following Wilberg, Scheel, and Hansberry were Mike Taylor and Wutke. Its a night at the circus I guess, said Wilberg when asked about his night after making heavy contact with the wall during qualifying in the late model division earlier that ended with a trip to the winners circle at the close of the night. Qualifying was rained out due to an unexpected rain shower while Scheel won the heat race. Ho Chunk Area Sportsman 15 Lap Feature:1. Bobby Wilberg (Beloit, WI), 2. Stephen Scheel (Lake Mills, WI), 3. Jovanni DiMaggio and Cory Skolaski came to the green flag with fourteen of their fellow competitors behind them set to do battle on the Ring of Fire. DiMaggio would take the early lead with several cars battling it out for second. Rookie Darren Arndt would hold down the second spot after passing Skolaski on lap 2. Pat Richgels would claim second on lap 4 with John Beale right behind him. But who was in fourth place? Chester Ace, who for the second week in a row starting twelfth. On lap 6 Ace would pass both Beale and Richgels to move into second. On lap 10 and while running the outside groove, Ace would wheel his way past DiMaggio coming out of turn four to take the lead and never really be challenged the rest of the way. Richgels would finish in second place followed by Lee Haag, Kyle Padfield, and Brian Beale. It never gets old, replied Ace when asked about his return to victory lane. I dont know what happened but ever since the cones were put out its all about momentum and weve been able to run that top side pretty well. Ambrose Shows the Way to Victory Lane in Hobby Stocks Todd Ambrose took the lead on the backstretch of the first lap and never looked back in winning the 12 lap feature for the Club LaMark Hobby Stocks. Terry Ciano Jr. and Chad Knaus brought the five car field to the green flag with Ambrose getting by Ciano Jr. on the first lap. The best race on the track was for second place which was claimed by Ciano Jr. after Don Fassett made contact with the backstretch wall on the final lap. Ive raced everything from super late models on down and I have never had so much fun then when I do racing these cars. Talk about a cost-effective way to race. Its Back to Victory Lane for Max McNamara Two-time defending champion Max McNamara was not to be denied tonight as he won the 20 lap feature for the Pellitteri Waste Systems Legends. The fifteen car field, the largest ever in a weekly event at MIS, was paced to the green flag by Kevin Griffen and Tony Moyer. But it would be the perennial powers of Tommy Jones, McNamara, and Andy Jones who would jump out to the lead. Tommy Jones would have the early advantage out front with McNamara and Andy Jones fighting it out for second. The first caution of the race came out on lap 6 for a spin in turn four. Jones would continue his leading ways until McNamara could wait no longer and dropped to the inside of Jones when he drifted slightly up the track coming out of turn four to take the lead on lap 9. Despite two more cautions, there would be no stopping McNamara tonight as he led the rest of the way to pick up his first feature win of the 2010 campaign. Andy Jones would wind up in second just ahead of his brother followed by Brandon Heisler and Rachael Pinkerman making it an all Land of Lincoln top five. Weve had the fastest car the past few weeks so it feels good to get it done tonight, said McNamara who this time finished ahead of the Jones brothers. Theyre good friends of mine. We work on our cars together. I plan on being back in victory lane next week. Fast qualifier was McNamara with a lap of 14.216 with Steve Narr and Tommy Jones winning the heat races.
