Jeremy Miller Takes Home Checkered Flag at MIS Wilberg, Knaus, Ace, and Jones Also Winners By John Wells [VL Photos follow race report] Oregon, WI (Friday, May 28, 2010)- Defending champion Jeremy Miller of Rockton, Illinois, found victory lane for the first time in 2010 by winning the 40 lap feature for the Rockweiler Insulation Late Models. Bobby Wilberg (Ho Chunk Area Sportsman), Chad Knaus (Club LaMark Hobby Stocks), Chester Ace (Roto Rooter Bandits), and Tommy Jones (Pellitteri Waste Systems Legends) also took their cars to victory lane on what proved to be another very interesting night of races at Madison International Speedway, an ASA member track.
Miller Best at the End in Late Models National ASA points runner-up from 2009 Jeremy Miller showed why he will be looking for the championship this year by topping the twenty-two car field in the Rockweiler Insulation Late Models in what proved to be another wild feature event. John Wood and John Ovadal Jr. had the honors of leading the field to the green flag with Ovadal Jr. taking the point from the start. The first caution came out on lap 3 for a spin which was quickly followed by another caution on the restart. Ovadal and Wood would continue to lead the field when the race went green again with Shaun Scheel right their to challenge in third. On lap 4 Scheel moved by Wood for second with Zack Riddle right behind him. Two laps later Riddle overtook Scheel for second and began to close in on Ovadals lead. On lap 8 Riddle was able to surpass Ovadal Jr. but the caution came out for a spin putting him back to second. After the restart Riddle would eventually take the top spot on lap 9 and quickly put some real estate between himself and the field. Scheel would move up to second followed by Bobby Wilberg, Ryan Goldade and Miller. Another caution flag came out on lap 17 for a spin. Riddle and Scheel brought the field back to green in the double file restart when it all broke loose out front ending the day for Riddle and sending Scheel to the pits for repairs. When the race went green again it would be Wilberg inheriting the lead followed by Miller, Goldade, Scott Broughton, who had earlier gone to the pits for repairs, and John Baumeister Jr. It was soon a five car break out led by Wilberg with Miller closing the gap. Miller was able to pass the leader down low on lap 26 coming out of turn two. He quickly built a multi-car advantage over Wilberg with Broughton and Goldade fighting it out for third. Eventually the two would get together bringing out the caution flag on lap 37. Miler would continue to use the inside groove to his liking as he maintained his lead over Wilberg on the restart and was able to maintain his lead the rest of the way and take his #5 car to the Indian Motorcycles of Chicago Victory Lane. The night would not end well for Wilberg who slowed on the final lap and had to settle for a twelfth place finish. Baumeister Jr. would finish second followed by Brady Liddle, Chad Wood, and John Wood. Im glad we got this one. Its always fun running with Bobby Wilberg, said Miller. Things worked out well for us tonight. Miller was the fastest qualifier with a lap of 19.033 and the heat winners were Kevin Knuese, John Wood, and Goldade. Wilberg Gets It Done in Area Sportsman Despite smoke coming from his car the last five laps, Bobby Wilberg was able to maintain his advantage over the field to win the 20 lap feature for the Ho Chunk Area Sportsman. The seven car field was brought to the green flag by Tommy Wutke and TJ Goldade with Goldade showing the most speed early on in his Camaro. Wilberg would overtake Wutke on lap 3 for second place and eventually get by the leader on the outside coming out of turn one on lap 6. The caution flag would wave on lap 7 for a spin but that wasnt about to slow down Wilberg. A good battle was taking place behind him between Mike Heelein and Stephen Scheel, but the night belonged to Wilberg who cruised to victory lane. Heelein would win the race for second followed by Scheel, Mike Taylor, and Don Wickstrum. I knew we were smoking, but I knew we could make it to victory lane, said Wilberg who is coming off a hand injury. This is a lot of fun and I wish we had more cars out here. Fast time honors went to Scheel with a lap of 20.783 with Goldade coming home the winner in the heat race. Ho Chunk Area Sportsman 20 Lap Feature:1. Bobby Wilberg (Beloit, WI), 2. Back to Back Wins for Ace Its two in a row for two-time defending champion Chester Ace as he topped a sixteen car field to win the 20 lap feature for the Roto Rooter Bandits. Brian Beale and Kenny Storkson paced the field of sixteen to the green flag with Beale getting the early advantage, but it would be his cousin John Beale who would get by on his inside on lap 3 to take the lead. By lap 4 Ace, who started tenth, was already up to fourth behind the Beales and Pat Richgels. One lap later Ace moved into to second place with Kyle Padfield following his line. Beale would continue to lead until Ace made a razzle dazzle / go high go low move coming out of turn four on lap 11 to take the lead. From this point on Ace would adeptly work his way through lapped traffic holding Padfield at bay to take home back to back clean sweeps in 2010. Following Ace and Padfield at the stripe were Lee Haag, John Beale, and Brian Beale. Ace set fast time with a lap of 15.324 while heat wins went to Ryan Slater, his first ever, Jon Coker, and Ace. Knaus Holds Off the Field in Hobby Stocks Not a bad day for a high school student about to complete his junior year at Sun Prairie High School as Chad Knaus held off the six car field to win for the first time in 2010 in the Club LaMrk Hobby Stocks. Mike Storkson and Terry Ciano Jr. came to the green flag first with Storkson jumping out to the early lead. On lap 2 Knaus battled his way past Ciano Jr. for second and one lap later powered by Storkson on the inside coming out of turn four to take the lead. Knaus was able to maintain his advantage out front but with each lap Todd Ambrose was closing ground. I knew he was closing ground, said Knaus. The four car advantage was cut in half by lap 12 and it appeared that Ambrose was up for the challenge with two laps to go. But Knaus would not be denied tonight as he held off Ambrose for the win. Rounding out the top five were Don Fassett, Ciano Jr., and Storkson. I got out front and knew I could stay there tonight, said Knaus, who will be team driving with Jeff Jesberger this year. Fassett set fast time with a lap of 21.368 while Ciano Jr. won the heat race.

Two in a Row for Tommy Jones Tommy Jones of Gurnee, Illinois, followed up his first-ever feature win on opening day with his second feature win by topping the eleven car field in the Pellitteri Waste Systems Legends. Brandon Heisler and Tim Narr brought the field to green but it was Jones who lead the first lap as the lead cars went high and low and he sprinted right between them. Quickly it became a four car break out with Jones showing the way followed by his brother Andy, Aaron Moyer, and two-time defending champion Max McNamara. Jones would hold the advantage until the caution came out on lap 8 for a spin sending Andy Jones and Moyer to the rear of the field. Jones would continue to lead with McNamara up to second. Working through lapped traffic on lap 15 went smoothly for the leaders with McNamara starting to apply heavy pressure on the leader. On the final lap McNamara made a valiant effort to get by Jones on the inside coming out of turn two only to spin, maintain his momentum and still finish third behind Jones and Moyer. Rounding out the top five were Andy Jones and Heisler. Moyer set fast time with a lap of 14.137 with Narr and Andy Jones winning heat races. Pellitteri Waste Systems Legends 20 Lap Feature:1.
