Exciting Opportunities for High School Students at MIS By John Wells Related Downloads:
Monday, March 15, 2010 (Oregon, WI)- Once again area high school students will have a some great opportunities at Madison International Speedway this spring and summer. The ASA Educational Series will be back at MIS this season with participating students eligible to win scholarships to Ohio Technical College in Cleveland, Ohio, to pursue a career in automotive technology. This is such a wonderful opportunity for the kids and the teams, said MIS General Manager Dave Grueneberg. Its a great way to get young people involved in the sport either as crew members or racers. Kids learn the skills and the race teams get to serve as mentors. Students can work for a race team at least one night per week in the race shop and at the track on Friday nights. Pete Raskovic of Urban Force Racing based in Beloit, Wisconsin, was one of those responsible for bringing the program to MIS three seasons ago. This program is all about relationships. The teams serve as role models and mentors and they are giving back to the sport they love. The kids will learn a lot and are a great asset to the racing team. But it is the connections that they make with others in the sport that are priceless. A point system is in place to determine the overall scholarship winners. All participants who successfully complete the program will be eligible for a scholarship to Ohio Technical College. Pat Richgels of Middleton, Wisconsin, won scholarships in both 2008 and 2009 as a driver. Ohio Tech is a great school and I have learned a lot. The facility is second to none and the instructors go out of their way to help you. Interested students can go to the Madison International Speedway website at madisoninternationalspeedway.com for more information. Participating students will need to become members of the ASA and Skills USA.
