Scott Broughton Wins Rockweiler Insulation Limited Late Model 50 Ace, McNamara, Bagley, and Stark Visit Victory Lane Oregon, WI (Friday, July 18, 2008) Scott Broughton won the 50 lap feature for the Rockweiler Insulation Limited Late Models as part of Clear Channel / Pomp's Tire Night at Madison International Speedway. Chester Ace won the Roto Rooter Bandit feature with Max McNamara (Pellitteri Waste Systems Legends), Tory Bagley (Bryden Motors Area Sportsman), and Kyle Stark (Hobby Stocks) also picking up checkered flags. Broughton Tops the Field in Limited Late Models Scott Broughton topped a field of twenty-five Rockweiler Insulation Limited Late Models to win the 50 lap feature. The race was run as a pair of twenty-five lap segments with a dice roll to determine the invert after the first segment. Coming into the 2008 season many fans had tabbed Scott Broughton as one of the favorites to win the Rockweiler Insulation Limited Late Model track championship. However, Broughton decided to concentrate his efforts on the Big 8 Series, but is probably wondering What If after winning his second weekly racing feature of the season at MIS in as many tries. With his win, Broughton became the first repeat winner in eight limited late model events at MIS this season. Ryan Miles and Ryan Carlson paced the twenty-five car field to the green flag. Miles would gain the early advantage before the first caution of the race came out on lap 3. Miles would continue to lead after the restart with the caution flag coming out three laps later for a backstretch incident that involved the cars of Nathan Oppliger and Shaun Scheel. Oppliger would be done for the night while Scheel would return later. When the green flag waved again it would still be Miles out front followed by Carlson, Jason Hicks, Chad Stevens, and Andy Evraets. Quickly working his way to the front, Stevens would pass both Carlson and Hicks to move up to second when the caution flag came out on lap 18 for fluid on the track. Unfortunately for Hicks he would lose power during the caution and have to head back to the pits. Miles would still hold the lead after the restart with Stevens quickly up to challenge for the lead. On lap 23 the two would get together in turn four bringing out the caution and sending both drivers to the back of the pack. This moved Carlson back up to the lead followed by Evraets, Kevin Knuese, Scott McGettigan, and Broughton. Carlson would lead the next two circuits before the first segment of the race ended after twenty-five laps. At this point all cars would return to the pits until coming back out later in the night. Carlson would have the opportunity to roll the dice to determine the invert for the second segment after telling track announcer Eric Huenefeld that his car needed a lot of work during the break. Carlson rolled a two meaning only the top two positions (Carlson and Evraets) would be inverted. The field returned to the track lining up side by side for the restart. Evraets and Carlson would battle side by side before Carlson took the lead until the caution flag came out on lap 33 for a spin and took away Carlson's multi-car length advantage over Evraets. Carlson would continue to show the way with Broughton up to second on lap 38 and quickly closing the gap between himself and the leader. Carlson would be able to hold off Broughton for three more laps before Broughton powered by him coming down the backstretch on lap 42 to take the lead. Bobby Wilberg and Ross Kenseth moved up to third and fourth respectively on lap 47 before the caution flag came out for a spin in turn two on lap 48. On the restart the leaders were save but the same thing could not be said for those back in the field as one car didn't get up to speed sending the cars behind into a chain reaction incident that sent several cars to the pits. Once everything on the track was cleaned up the race continued for the final few laps with Broughton cruising to victory with a 0.557 advantage over Carlson followed by Wilberg, Kenseth, and Evraets. This was hard work, said Broughton from victory lane who was driving with a sore shoulder after a racing incident last week. Wilberg set fast time with a lap of 18.784 (95.826 mph) while Brady Liddle won the qualifying race and Jason Hicks became the fourth different driver to win the Wayne's Custom DIECAST Dash Series. Two in a Row for Chester Ace Chester Ace won for the second time and fourth time this season to increase his points lead in the Roto Rooter Bandits by topping a ten car field in their 20 lap feature. Kyle Stark and Terry Ciano led the field to the green flag with Stark gaining the early advantage. Showing a lot of early speed, Jody Schmidt wasted no time in getting by Stark on the outside for the lead on lap 2. Quickly up to challenge Schmidt was Kyle Padfield who slid by for the lead coming out of turn four on lap 5. Both Ace and Stephen Scheel would pass Schmidt and move up to challenge Padfield for the lead. On lap 9 Ace had moved alongside Padfield and a good side by side battle ensued. Ace held a slight advantage on lap 10 and by lap 14 had built up some breathing room over Padfield. From this point it would be all Ace who powered his way to Smart Motors Victory Lane followed by Padfield, Scheel, Cory Skolaski, and Tom Bleecker. Ace set fast time with a lap of 15.806 with Schmidt and Scheel winning the heat races. Bandits
McNamara Sprints to Legends Victory Not only did Max McNamara win his second feature in a row, but he also became the new points leader in the Pellitteri Waste Systems Legends. When the feature field came out onto the track for their scheduled 20 lap event one driver was missing. Alex Arelano, who has been the division's point leader all season, experienced problems in his heat race and was unable to answer the call for the feature. This meant McNamara would be the new point leader when the night would end, but Mad Max wanted more than just that. Michael Cooter and Cody Townsend paced the field to the green flag with Cooter getting out to the early lead. By lap 4, defending champion Blake Brown was up to second and applying the pressure on Cooter. One lap later Brown would fly by Cooter for the lead and quickly build a huge advantage over Cooter and the rest of the field. With Brown comfortably in the lead it appeared that he was easily on his way to victory lane with McNamara appearing to be the only car who could challenge. Unfortunately for Brown, the caution flag came out on lap 15 and negated his sizeable lead. Following the restart it appeared to be a two car race between Brown and McNamara. On lap 17, McNamara moved to the inside of Brown coming down the backstretch. Suddenly a ball of fire came out of Brown's car bringing out the caution and ending his night. This would send McNamara to victory lane as the event was called complete after 17 laps. Arelano set fast time with a lap of 14.238 while Brown won the heat race. Legends
Bagley Best in Area Sportsman Tory Bagley made the most of his first 2008 visit to MIS by winning the 15 lap feature for the Bryden Motors Area Sportsman. Bagley was the second first-time visitor to win a feature in as many weeks. It took awhile before things settled down in the feature as the caution flag came out early. Steve Dickson and Bagley paced the field to the green flag and things got interesting right from the start when two cars got together in turn one bringing out the caution. After the restart the caution flag came out again when several cars got together coming out of turn one. As a result the damaged cars of Darrell Garman, TJ Goldade, and Bret Schmidt all went to the pits and were done for the night. Dickson would take over the lead when the green flag waved again but only for three laps as Bagley got inside him coming out of turn four to take over the lead with Scott Lawver up to second two laps later. Lawver would do everything he could but wouldn't have enough for Bagley who cruised to victory. Following Bagley and Lawver at the line were point leader Jay Kalbus, Dickson, and RC Van Ransull. Bagley won the heat race while Schmidt set fast time with a circuit of 20.428. Area Sportsman
Stark Leads the Way in Hobby Stocks Kyle Stark won the 20 lap feature for the Hobby Stocks in their first appearance of the 2008 season. The field of eight cars was brought to the green flag by Rodger Stephenson and Steven Sauer. Stephenson quickly jumped out to the lead and looked like he was the car to beat until he drifted up the track on lap five and surrendered the lead to Sauer. With Sauer out front, a good battle was shaping up for second between Jimmy Robinson and Kyle Stark. The first and only caution of the race came out on lap 9 for a spin on the front stretch. Sauer continued to lead after the restart with Stark getting by Robinson for second on lap 13. One lap later Stark made the move of the race and got by Sauer on the outside for the lead. Stark would lead the rest of the way and take home the checkered flag followed by Sauer, Robinson, Jason Elliott, and Zach Schmidt. Stark led the way in qualifying with a lap of 15.274. Hobby Stocks
