Rubeck Patiently Wins Super Late Model Feature at MIS Broughton, Garman, Schmidt, and McNamara also Triumphant By John Wells Oregon, WI (Friday, June 20, 2008) Steve Rubeck waited many years to win his first-ever feature event earlier this year at MIS. Proving that patience has its rewards, the Illinois driver waited until the final lap to pass Frank Kreyer for the win in the Weaver Auto Parts Super Late Model 40 lap feature on Tech Enterprises Night. Other feature winners included Scott Broughton in the Rockweiler Insulation Limited Late Models, Darrell Garman in the Bryden Motors Area Sportsman, Jody Schmidt in the Roto Rooter Bandits, and Max McNamara in the Pellitteri Waste Systems Legends.
Rubeck Saves His Best for Last Lap Victory In one of the most exciting finishes of the season at MIS, Steve Rubeck picked up win number two of 2008 by topping a fifteen car field in the 40 lap feature for the Weaver Auto Parts Super Late Models. Kyle Kinder and Frank Kreyer paced the field to the green flag with Kinder taking the early lead before surrendering the top spot on lap 2 when Kreyer slid by on the inside. Showing a lot of early speed, Kreyer wasted no time building up a solid lead over the field while Rubeck moved up to second on lap 8 when he passed Zack Riddle. Kreyer continued to pull away from the field for the first twenty-five laps. Slowly but surely the field was starting to close the gap led by Rubeck, Andrew Morrissey, Bobby Wilberg, and Nathan Haseleu. By lap 30 Rubeck was right on Kreyer's bumper and one lap later it looked like a five car chain at the front of the field. The chase would get very interesting on lap 35 when the leaders came upon lapped traffic. Kreyer and his pursuers were able to maneuver their way through traffic as Rubeck began to look to the inside of Kreyer for the lead. With Kreyer able to hold him off, Rubeck decided it was time to try the outside. Coming out of turn two and powering down the backstretch Rubeck was able to take Kreyer on the outside on the final lap of the race and take home the checkered flag much to the appreciation of the crowd. Kreyer would finish second by just 0.1 seconds followed by Wilberg, Haseleu, and Morrissey. WowÉThat was super late model racing at its best, said Rubeck from victory lane. A strong promoter of racing at MIS, Rubeck challenged other super late models drivers to come to MIS on Friday nights. Thirteen of the fifteen cars finished on the lead lap. Haseleu set fast time with a lap of 17.821 (101.004 mph) while Kreyer and Wilberg won the heat races.

Broughton Returns to MISÉWins Wire Works 30 for Rockweiler Insulation Limited Late Models Projected as one of the favorites to win a track championship in the limited late model division in 2008, Scott Broughton decided not to race weekly at a track where he has had a great deal of success at over the years. However, he made the most of his second visit of the year to MIS tonight by winning the 30 lap feature for the Rockweiler Insulation Limited Late Models. Cliff Rucks and Nathan Oppliger brought the twenty-one car field to the green flag with Rucks getting out to the early advantage. In only his second race of the season, Rucks was following up on a strong run last week and held down the top spot for the first fifteen circuits. Facing heavy pressure from Ryan Miles, Rucks was unable to hold the lead as the young Illinois driver got by on the inside coming out of turn four on lap 16 to take over the point. A caution for a spin on lap 17 brought out the caution flag with Miles still leading followed now by Broughton, Rucks, Brett Moffitt, and Ross Kenseth. Miles would continue to top the field for the next three laps before Broughton snuck by on the inside coming out of turn four on lap 20. Now the veteran Broughton would have to hold off a pack of young guns who were chasing him down. Kenseth would sprint by Miles on lap 24 for second place and set his sights on the leader. Broughton would be able to hold off the hard chargers and go home $600.00 richer. Kenseth would finish second by 0.39 seconds followed by Miles, Moffitt, and Andrew Kulka. Point leader Bobby Wilberg would finish sixth. We had some tough luck in May with this carÉwe're pretty happy about this, said Broughton who brought his car out in preparation for Tuesday's Big 8 race. Nineteen of the twenty-one cars finished on the lead lap. Ryan Goldade set fast time with a lap of 19.003 (94.722 mph). Heat winners were Shaun Scheel, Jason Hicks, and Curt Thompson. Garman Takes Home Area Sportsman Win Darrell Garman won the fifteen lap feature for the Bryden Motors Area Sportsman division. Brent Gergen and Russ Nicholson comprised the front row of the eight car field with Nicholson becoming the early leader before a spin on lap 3 brought out the caution flag. On the restart Garman would take over the lead closely followed by Jay Kalbus. It quickly became a two car race with a good battle for third between Mike Heelein and Steve Dickson. Despite a strong challenge from Kalbus, Garman would be able to hold him off to pick up his first feature win of the 2008 season and take home the $225.00 check. Garman commented in victory lane, We're really proud to win. We finally beat these guys. Heelein set fast time with a lap of 20.759 while Garman won the heat race. Schmidt Powers His Way to Bandits Victory Jody Schmidt won his second feature of the 2008 season by topping a seven car field in the fifteen lap feature for the Roto Rooter Bandits. Led to the green by the brothers Skolaski (Brandon and Cory) the caution flag came out early when the two got together coming out of turn one. On the restart it would be the point leader going into the night Stephen Scheel who take over the lead and hold it for the next thirteen laps. On lap 13 Schmidt was right there to challenge and the two tangled coming out of turn four sending Scheel for a wild ride on the front stretch the unfortunately ended his evening prematurely. With Schmidt leading, Chester Ace decided he was going to give it everything he had and despite making a strong last lap charge for the lead he came up just short of the win. Following Schmidt and Ace at the line were Cory Skolaski, Tom Bleecker, and Brandon Skolaski. Schmidt set fast time with a lap of 15.631 with Cory Skolaski winning the heat race. Roto Rooter Bandits Feature:1. Jody Schmidt (Belleville, WI), 2. Chester Ace (Oregon, WI), 3. Cory Skolaski (Fitchburg, WI), 4. Tom Bleecker (Watertown, WI), 5. Brandon Skolaski (Fitchburg, WI), 6. McNamara Gets It Done in the Legends Alex Arelano's three night win streak finally ended when Max McNamara, who had been so close up to tonight, won the fifteen lap feature for the Pellitteri Waste Systems Legends. It seemed like a bounty had been placed on Arelano as defending champion Blake Brown returned to see what he could do about ending the streak. Unfortunately Brown had major problems with his car in qualifying and had to borrow a car to run the feature. Dave Wastak and Rich Hinerichsen led the field of seven Legends to the green flag with Herman Greinig parting the leaders on the backstretch on the first lap to take the lead. On lap 3 McNamara was up for the challenge as he vaulted past Greining on the inside to take the top position. Right behind McNamara would be Arelano and the chase was on. Despite getting heavy pressure from Arelano, McNamara, or Mad Max as he is called by track announcer Eric Huenefeld, was up for the challenge tonight as he took home the win. Following McNamara and Arelano were Greinig, Aaron Moyer, and Brown. That was fun. It's great to get a win, said a very excited McNamara from Smart Motors Victory Lane. Arelano set fast time with a lap 14.092 of while Greinig and McNamara won the heat races. Pellitteri Waste Systems Legends Feature:1. Max McNamara (Ingleside, IL), 2. Alex Arelano (Frankfort, IL), 3.
